Competent Cells for Cloning

Stellar Competent Cells for cloning experiments

Several types of competent cells suitable for transformation during cloning experiments. We offer chemically compentent cell for calcium chloride treatment as well as Electrocompetent cell lines, which are ready to be transformed via electroporation.

1. CHEMICALLY COMPETENT CELLS

Stellar competent cells

Suitable for applications such as preparation of cDNA and genomic libraries, construction of long genomic libraries, subcloning and methylated DNA cloning.

Main features:

  • Based on an E. coli HST08 strain
  • High efficiency for cloning
  • Useful for cloning of methylated DNA (It lacks the gene cluster for cutting foreign methylated DNA)
  • Ideal for use with In-Fusion cloning systems

E. coli DH5a Competent Cells

Can be used with general purpose cloning, generation of recombinant plasmids, or subcloning or cloning of methylated DNA.

Main features:

  • Very high transformation efficiency
  • At least 1 x 107 colonies/1 µg test plasmid (for CJ236, MV1184, and BMH71-18 mutS)
  • At least 1 x 108 colonies/1 µg test plasmid (for HB101, DH5 alpha, JM109, HST02, HST08, and HST16CR)

2. ELECTROCOMPETENT CELLS

Stellar competent cells

Stellar electrocompetents cells are useful for cloning of methylated DNA, in addition to construction of genomic libraries and longer-length genomic libraries.

Main features:

  • High transformation efficiency
  • Lack the gene cluster which digests foreign methylated DNA (mrr-hsdRMS-mcrBC and mcrA).
  •  Based on the HST08 E. coli strain
  • These cells paired with pUC plasmid vectors provide good reproducibility

E. coli DH5a Electro-Competent Cells

Can be used to transform recombinant plasmid DNA into bacterial cells.

Agrobacterium Electrocompetent Cells

Suitable for preparation of transgenic recombinant plants, binary vector delivery or T-DNA transfer to plant cells.

3. STABLE COMPETENT CELLS

Designed to improve DNA stability by disrupting the genes related to homologous recombination.

Main features:

  • For cloning of plasmids with repeat elements and unstable inserts
  • For cloning of poly(A) repeats
  • Lacks the a fhuA gene
